On October 1, 2025, the United States Government shut down. Government shutdowns are caused when Congress disagrees on how the Government should be funded. When the Budget doesn’t pass through Congress, the Government Shutdown begins. Once a Budget is agreed upon and is passed, the Shutdown will end.
During times of Government Shutdown, essential programs and services continue, while others will stop being funded. One program that is impacted by this, is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. SNAP is also known as EBT or Food Stamps. It is unclear how much funding will go towards the SNAP program during the Government Shutdown, so DRI is sharing these two statewide resources to ensure Iowa’s families have access to resources in their communities.
