Iowans with disabilities are urged to share their perspectives, opinions, and needs with Disability Rights Iowa as they re-evaluate the focus of their advocacy.
IOWA — To best serve Iowans with disabilities, Disability Rights Iowa (DRI) needs Iowans with disabilities to fill out their 2025 Areas of Focus Survey. The survey questions ask the community to share the disability rights issues impacting them right now. Those answers are used by DRI’s Board of Directors to decide how direct DRI’s advocacy for the next three years. Participants will be asked a variety of questions about the services DRI provides as well as a new question on what issues Iowans are experiencing pop up around the state.
DRI’s 2025 Areas of Focus Survey can be found online at this link.
DRI’s Executive Director, Catherine Johnson urges all Iowans with disabilities to share their perspectives with DRI through completing the survey, “We encourage you to share the disability issues most impacting you and your community. By focusing on the widespread issues currently impacting our community, we can maximize our limited resources and serve as many Iowans as possible.” Maximizing resources is more important now than ever as DRI is at risk of experiencing a reduction in their Federal Protection and Advocacy Grants in 2026.
“Protection and Advocacy Grants fund our work, providing us with the ability to provide free legal advocacy assistance to Iowans with disabilities. In the event of a loss of funding, DRI may need to reduce or modify the assistance available to Iowans with disabilities, making the community’s input on our survey more important than it has ever been.” Johnson shares. DRI’s updated Areas of Focus will be announced in September following the closure of the online survey.
