woman stands in front of a gray background. She is facing the camera with a bright open smile. She has dark curly hair with highlights. She is wearing a brown suit and gold jewelry.

Monitoring and Investigations Specialist

Joining the team in July 2026, Skylar serves as the Monitoring and Investigations Specialist for Disability Rights Iowa. Skylar’s passion for protecting the rights of people with disabilities began as a child, when she spent time in institutional settings receiving mental health services. Skylar uses her personal experiences to inform her work, and as such, she was awarded the Alfred Healy Leadership Award in Developmental Disabilities, a competitive grant supporting projects that advance systems of care for individuals with disabilities and their families.

Skylar graduated in 2026 from the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!) with her Master of Social Work. As a graduate student, she worked at the Center for Disabilities and Development as a trainee in Iowa’s Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (ILEND) program.

Outside of work, Skylar’s passions include ultimate frisbee, collecting knick-knacks, and spending time with friends and family.
